When we began Chesterton Academy in the Twin Cities in 2008, we never dreamed that our model of education would attract interest around the world. Today there are currently 56 schools operating as part of the Network in the U.S. and Canada, with several additional schools slated to open in 2024. There is also a sister school in Italy, and affiliated schools in Iraq, and Sierra Leone.
Our Flagship School & Sister School
The original Chesterton Academy opened in 2008 in Edina, MN, when co-founders Dale Ahlquist and Tom Bengston dreamed of starting a Catholic high school that truly met the educational and spiritual needs of their children. Unknown to them, Marco Sermarini and his community in San Benedetto del Tronto, Italy, founded a school in the same year, with the same patron of G.K. Chesterton, and has a similar model of formation.
The two schools were introduced by Father Spencer Howe and met for the first time in 2013. A beautiful sisterhood developed, building a bridge of prayer and visits between Minnesota and San Benedetto.
